My New Obsession: Dr Who

As I've posted before, I'm not a huge fan of TV. I currently love Life Unexpected and a few MTV shows that I won't mention. They're guilty pleasures. This post isn't about TV in general (nor is it about writing...sorry), but one particular show...

Yes, I know they just changed the logo. I don't care. I like this one.

A few months ago, my friend visited from out of town. When we're together we don't do the most exciting things, but love just spending time with each other. Flopped onto the couch, we thought it would be fun to waste the evening away watching something on Netflix instant stream. Flipping through the TV show section, I landed on Doctor Who. I had never watched it , but had heard about it through Nerdfighteria.

Turning to my friend Diana, I said, "So, have you ever watched this before?"
"Just once, and not a whole episode. We can watch it if you want." I knew she would be up for anything, so I found season one, episode one and hit play.

I had no clue what to expect to be honest, but the awesomeness of Dr. Who was not it. We laughed and giggled through 'Rose'. At the end, I was almost afraid to admit I wanted to watch more. Luckily, so did she. My husband came downstairs from time to time, wondering what all the screaming, laughing and utter enjoyment was about as plastic mannequins marched across the TV screen and Aliens swarmed the Doctor and Rose Tyler. We ended up watching two episodes before it was time for dinner.

After that weekend, I figured I would be on my own watching the episodes, but my husband sat down and watched the first two with me. He was hooked. It was like the Doctor was pointing his sonic screwdriver right at us and demanded we fall in love with him.

We have now watched two and a half series' and have to force ourselves not to plow through the remaining episodes. All seasons (even the older ones) are on our Netflix queue waiting to be devoured. I have searched hundreds of Dr Who websites for more information, sucking it up like a sponge. I now own MUSIC ABOUT DR WHO (perfectly named Trock...Time Lord Rock) I have my costume for Halloween planned out (of course Dr Who themed, but I'm not telling you what yet) and my desktop wallpaper is the Doctor (the 10th of course) and the Tardis. Whoa, and I thought I loved Harry Potter (don't get me started). Yes, I have officially hit the deep end and I'm not ashamed of it.

This is my new found love. I haven't liked a show this much since Alias first started (and I think I may even like Dr. Who more, shhh). And for the record, so far David Tennant is my favorite Doctor and Billie Piper (Rose) is my favorite companion. I am in denial there is a new Doctor (Matt Smith as the 11th doctor) and companion (Karen Gillan as Amy Pond).

Are there any YAedge Dr Who fans out there?

I found this show on Netflix a few months back and just fell in love. I had never seen it before either, but I had heard about it from a few different people. The quirkiness and concept were just so fun and amazing.

Welcome to the ranks of followers :P

I've been a fan since the 80's and am so glad they brought it back and made it so good! David Tennant was a the best Doctor so far, but the new showrunner, Steven Moffat, is an amazing writer, so I bet you'll also fall in love with Matt Smith. Welcome to the Whovians! I, for one, can't wait for the new season to start on BBCA on April 17!

I just found Dr. Who last year--and fell completely head-over-heels for Number 10. Past seasons are in my Netflix queue...just in case I need a #10 fix. (I have high hopes for #11 but you never forget your first.)

Oh. My. God. I love all of you! So glad to see I'm not alone. It's an obsession, isn't it? I need Dr Who therapy! It helps the #10 is quite sexy, right Mary?

I almost had a heart attack when my Netflix instant queue said they were taking off the series' April 1 from streaming. I came back from vacation and they were still there. Phew, crisis averted.

I have been on the edge of becoming a Dr. Who fan for awhile now. Don't know what's been holding me back, buit ti's probably time to just dive in. This new guy looks pretty decent. Checked out Torchwood? Haven't been a watcher of the series but watched the Children of Earth movie and it was amazing.

Jeff, I haven't watched Torchwood yet. I found out last week that it was a spinoff and added all seasons to my Netflix queue. We're waiting until we get through Dr Who before starting it. Will have to check out the Children of Earth movie! Is it in the Torchwood world?

Oh yeah, Children of Earth follows all the regular Torchwood characters. It's heavy duty stuff. Much more intense an experience than I was anticipating. Enjoy!

LOL, yes, thanks to that day Tami I am fully obsessed as well! I'm pretty sure it's my favourite show now! And I've been watching the new Dr. Who episodes on You Tube since they've already started airing in the U.K.! Long live the Doctor! :)

Finally, I can post. I've caught up on my qorkshop and have a working internet/computer. I've been going crazy lol

I lived in San Antonio when I fell in love with DR Who (we watched it all on Netflix LOL)

And the best part was once a month the Alamo theatre ran a FREE dr who night. My obsession is so great, I considered staying in a place I came to loathe (the reasons are a season of drama TV all by themselves:P) simply to keep my free ticket to the big screen of Dr Who

I say when I get my first big advance, that we head to San Antonio for a night of Dr Who.

What say you??

HELL YA! LOL. My coworker keeps telling me how awesome The Alamo is. He wants to open one here in San Diego. Wow, Dr Who on the big screen!
